What day is it? I think it’s Saturday.
Didn’t take long for that awareness of days to start dissolving. We needed to know that because we are looking at the tide schedule for the NE end of the Bras D’or Lakes. We decided to avoid what was a big storm; 40mph winds and cut through Cape Breton by going through the lakes. We are almost at the lock and the forecast has changed decidedly. Less rain and wind, but here we are.
We will tie up outside the lock and pass through at 8 am tomorrow morning. We will can fuel up in Baddeck, one of our old haunts and then enter the crossing to Newfoundland’s fresh and early Monday morning.
About 2 hours ago we had whale sightings; likely Minke and Fin whales. Lots of blows about a mile out, punctuated by a couple of Harbor Porpoise. Seems like more sightings early on the trip than I remember. This afternoon we had some good looks at a tuna feeding frenzy. Always a show as the leap full body out of the sea.
We ended up adding a third reef in the main today and setting out the storm jib, preemptively preparing for the storm. Nice not to have to do it in the rain and wind.
Wonderful day of sailing, reading and discussions the excesses of our cursing.
