Fog and ice and curry for dinner…

70 miles out from Nanortalik, 45 from first contact with an ice berg, not contact we hope, sighting. We were going too fast, we want to set up for a daylight arrival so we took in the Genoa and spilled some wind from the main.

We filled out the form announcing our arrival to the Greenland officials. We now will be calling in every 6 hours letting them know our coordinates.

Meanwhile Steve expertly peeled and cubed a butternut squash, Charlie is cheffing up some veggie curry. The chef has decided on roasted sweet potatoes, with a Greek yogurt and sunflower seed remoulade (I had to look it up too).

My watch started in the fog this afternoon, not long after the sun appeared, fog retreated to the horizon and for an hour so we could see. I felt the warmth, and gratitude for being able to be here, with these people on this boat at this time.

Tech feat of the day, the trip; Charlie took the ice chart map; a PDF, and found a way to overlay our course. He added in another chart that showed bergs further out. Then he set up an alarm system using our course tracking so when we get close we get a heads up.

Lots on our minds here. Other ships, icebergs, Steve catching his flight out of Nanortalik, laundry. Oh and seeing Greenland.
