For the last hour we have been computating how to proceed into the town of Nanortalik, Greenland. Charts are out, the Starlink is on, a lap top, a computer, phones. Yes I realize we called this “Following in the Vikings Wake” and those red headed sailors certainly didn’t have these but… we are going to use what we have to avoid the ice bergs.
We are about 128 miles out, bound up in fog, blowing 15 knots. The current plan is to go about 80 miles to get within viewing of one of the outer bergs, then heave-to. Basically stall the boat so it floats in the same current that the ice bergs do for about 24 hours. The weather report has the fog lifting about then. Needless to say no wildlife sightings today, current visibility is 80 yards.
