After the big bus day we had some time before our 1230 departure. It made sense for the wind and currents. There were showers to take, a meal on the boat and naps.
A last walk or two around town. Since we were right at the dock people leaned in and chatted us up about the voyage and the boat.
At midnight we motored over to the gas dock, ATM machine next to a pump and self-served the diesel we needed, then caught the outgoing tide.
It was motoring mostly throughout the night, a little rolls on the waves but not too bad.
It is 6 pm now and we have been sailing for hours, nice breeze, 7 or so knots of speed on a starboard reach, just perfect. Easy enough to sit outside and drift into and out of sleep, look out for cetaceans or read a boat.
There are oil rigs looming in the distance. A new obstacle for us and one that we will be on the look out for until we arrive in Norway.
Huge.
Earlier in the day we had 2 or 3 pairs of whales not far from us. big blows, weaving back and forth apparently feeding on the surface.
We found the Scolloway Boating Club online: https://scallowayboatingclub.com/ and booked a slip there for tomorrow night. We are on the look out for local music, Scotch (this is Scotland after all) and maybe some pub food.
