Just ate a Triscuit smoke mackerel sandwich. The sun is out , the deck is covered in cushions, sleeping bags; airing out. We are sampling the local scotch and letting our bones absorb the sun.
We arrived here around 10 this morning, Scalloway Scotland. A new country.
We had a bit of a scramble with the online sign in., around 5 am we got ahold of an official who made things make sense. Forms were filled out and we were granted permission to come in to the country. Really the most rigid procedure of them all.
The sail over, at first a motor turned into a sweet sail across from the Faroes. Coming in early in the morning, watching first one island then another then more of the archipelago appear in the dawn light was special.

Scalloway Boat Club. That is where we are tied up for the night. Just one night because there is a fishing, Cod fishing, tournament starting tomorrow. 14 Norwegians arrive tonight. The little boat club will be bustling tomorrow. The locals will participate as well.
So we rest some, chat up the locals, take showers do a little laundry and dry out.
We took the walk into town earlier. Got some stuff…mayo, combs (you’ll see why in a minute) Meat pies…

Walked past the castle from the 1600’s and into the museum. Humans have lived here for some time. Neolithic’s 2000 years ago in conical earthen structures. Scalloway folks that supplied the Norwegian resistance fighting the Nazi’s in the 40’s.
Weaving and fishing and heroes all part of this island culture.

There appear an urgent need for
Jonathan to get his beard trimmed. Unruly as it was. We asked the local dog groomer, nope. No one was willing. We found combs in the grocery store and I asked Charlie, he was game.

So then dinner. Larry, James and I went to the pub to have a pint. I went over to the only restaurant in town to check availability and ask them to charge my tablet. All full we were disappointed to find. Happy to charge the tablet but no dinner. So Larry went off to the butcher to get something for the grill.
Off we go to Lerwick tomorrow
